|

| Could someone tell me what the best way to price a large retail chain window cleaning job would be? Is it feasible to look at total square footage of glass or per pane pricing? There are multiple levels in some locations -- think of Gander Mountain with the multi-story front. If there are multiple locations with different building styles, what is the best common denominator to use for pricing so that bids can be compared across regions? Any information would be greatly appreciated! |

We do per pane pricing, for us this has worked well.
We do the same price for 1st floor or a 2nd floor window, basically we developed a rate which takes into consideration for the fact that we will make a little less on 2nd floor but make very well on 1st floor so the two average out. Most jobs will also have smaller transoms and larger plates mixed so the extra time spent on the larger windows is covered by the less time spent on the smaller windows so this also averages out but makes it simple to bid jobs by any employee by a window count and not neccesarily telling the employees the actual cost we charge.
When pricing multiple locations across regions it is difficult as pricing really varies by location. We have bid these by having another window company in that particular area price it as they would be the one we would contract to clean for us anyway. This type of networking has benn very benefitial to gain larger chains throughout a region. |

| This is very helpful information. I agree that this is a simple, yet effective, method to price out jobs and eliminates the hassles of "special" window layouts. |

Just a quick note...
With the advent of Google Earth pricing multiple locations should be relatively easy. If you know the addresses you can get a birds eye view and street view to help in pricing. I would use the hourly system for any customer with multiple locations.
Hope this helps!

| The only issue that could occur with hourly pricing is telling a potential customer that you charge $80.00 an hour. This may turn them away as it may seem high to them for such services. |
