The first time I went to work with my water fed pole system on an icy morning and realised that all the water in the hoses had frozen, I was sick as a parrot. I couldn't use the system until it had thawed out, which was around dinner time and the winter nights were setting in early so tha I could only work for about three hours that day.

To stop the same thing happening the next morning, I put a paraffin heater in the back of the van on it's lowest setting and the hoses were ready to use in the morning.

The fact that the van stank of paraffin and the realisation that you shouldn't leave a naked flame in a van meant that this method was only used for that initial night.

My van was parked on the roadside so I couldn't hook any electrical heating system up to it to get the same results. Most icy mornings thereafter, resulted in no use of my water fed pole system and I returned to traditional window cleaning methods so that I could earn a living.

This meant, that if I started using the water fed pole system when the weather picked up again, that my pure water window cleaning system would have to start from scratch again on my customers windows.

I flogged the van system, which proved to be totally unsuitable for terraced houses, which is what nearly all of work was.

Does anyone know of a system to stop the hoses and tank from freezing overnight when your van is parked outside?

we put small heaters in the van overnight to keep them warm.
