I am not talking about fog you associate with winter. Rather, have you ever seen those windows with moisture between the panes? The customer would like the moisture gone if possible. How can you clean glass between the panes? How do you get the fog out?

Many people say to replace the window.

The windows are not in need of replacing!!!!

Spare that cost, and make some money out of your clientale.

Why do multiple-pane windows fog?

What happens is that thermal panes (IGUs - Insulated Glass Units) get stress from transportation, installation, and the building settling after construction.

Then consider the temperature changes the sun causes in the area sealed between the two panes of glass. That is why in the Northern Hemisphere, south-facing windows get foggy.

The heat and stress causes air particles inside to become more active and this affects the atmospheric pressure on the panes. This pressure is partly a cause of small gaps in the seal, and allows a small amount of moisture in. This affects the RV value.

Also, sometimes the shower, cooking or potplants can cause fog, but if you windows lack stress and have the right RV value, this won't be major issue.

Manufacturers put ''dessicant'' (a drying agent to absorb water molecules) in the bottom of the area between the two panes. However, it can only absorb so much, and when the seal breaks, it can quickly reach it's threshold. The RV value is lost.

What's the solution?

To restore the RV value.

For a fraction of the cost of a new window, you get a window cleaner with defogger equipment to remove the moisture.

A very small hole is drilled in the corner of the window, the moisture extracted, the window washed inside, and the window is as good as new.

This is becoming industry practice in the USA and Canada. Some companies offering this service are:

USA - Window Medics franchises - http://www.defogit.com/

Canada - Crystal Clear franchises - http://www.ccwwi.com/

This does not work though if the window has been left until a white stain forms inside.
